At the beginning of 2004, little Jack Brown was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Jack is the youngest son of my work colleagues, Richard and Yvonne. Even with chemotherapy children with stage IV neuroblastoma have a 2-year survival rate of approximately 20%. The question is how to get rid of those few cells that have escaped chemotherapy and can cause relapse. One promising answer is immune therapy that specifically targets these remaining cells. For this treatment to happen, the family had to travel to the USA for treatment. However it would cost $350,000. The Jack Brown Appeal was created.

Please help to continue this constant uphill struggle.

However, this little boy, who loved life to the full, died whilst in America on the 3rd May. Jack had an impact on everyone who met him and he will be missed. Rest In Peace Jack, let your Angel Wings take you wherever you want.

Jack you don't know me.

I work for the Met with your mum and dad. It seems silly writing this on a computer but feels right in so many ways. I an going to New York with your dad in May to run in the event that will forever be a time we can all raise a few quid for the fight if the illness that took you away to soon. I have personal reason for going this year, i originally said couldn't go because i was expecting my third child and we were planning on the arrival being in March so the boss said i couldn't go....

Sadly, the baby didn't make it. We lost our third child a few weeks back and after seeing the little devil kicking about in the scan and other bits and pieces it seems we lost a child that, although not born, was still a massive part of my life and one i will never forget. I only have a black and white picture of our unborn baby as a memory and i ask you Jack to please keep an eye out up there for our baby, we nicknamed him/her HP, and if you see a lonely baby up there pleased tell our baby we said hello and will see them one day for the cuddle we never had.

Cheers Jack.

Jack

Remember the Police Halloween party in '08 when you dressed up, and we danced together?
Seeing you around CC as well, I miss you. You have no idea how loved you are, and how much we all need you. Hope you're having fun up there, but wishing you were back down here again.
One last dance?
Love you Jack xx

Never Forgotten

I had the ultimate pleasure of meeting this remarkable little boy while staying at the Burlington, VT Ronald McDonald House. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I often think of him and the impact he has had on me since that stay just over a year ago. I will always treasure the Mickey Mouse card he made for me and the Bracelet Yvonne made for me. As my son grows, I will be sure to let him know about this brave and charming boy and his amazing parents and siblings. Richard and Yvonne, it was my pleasure getting to know you during our stay and Jack will always have an impact on me.
